Sonora is a historic gold mining town located in the Sierra Nevada foothills. It was founded during the California Gold Rush and still retains much of its 19th-century architecture, including the Sonora Opera Hall and the Tuolumne County Courthouse. The town has a vibrant downtown area with boutique shops, restaurants, and cafes. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy hiking and fishing in the nearby Stanislaus National Forest and Pinecrest Lake. Sonora is also home to the Mother Lode Fairgrounds, which hosts the annual Mother Lode Fair and other community events throughout the year.
