While dumpster diving in 1995, Katie found a pair of K2 Extreme Skis and decided it was a sign that Steamboat was her place!One of her best memories of that summer was seeing David Grisman play his mandolin on the Courthouse lawn. That's where the free concerts used to take place and Steamboat was still small enoughto close down the street at 5 PM on a Friday night. Supporting herself by makingtortillas for a local Mexican restaurantthat she would eventually own, she saved enough money to spend the summer in Alaska cookingin what used to be a brothel. Luckily she got paid in moneyand was able to return to Steamboat andtake classes at thelocal college. After transferring and earning herdegreeat Colorado State University, she worked several seasons as a wildlife tech (mainly birds). This allowed her to follow her passion for birds and natureas she lived in a trailer down by the river on the Arapahoe National Wildlife Refuge. After this mission, piecing together her management and restaurant expertise, she purchased the iconic La Montana Mexican Restaurant. This was just as the Great Recession was hitting Steamboat.Definitely not for the faint of heart, she still thrived, while learning and laughing a lot.Today while she misses her restaurant friends, she's still laughing and learning andenjoys working in real estate. Her skills as a creative thinker and problem solver mesh well and serve her clients well. When she'snot working, you can find Katie coaching high school lacrosse, bird watching, shredding Mount Werner on her snowboard or tele's,skate skiing Howelsen,mountain biking, or hanging with friends and family.
