Arapahoe County, located in the great state of Colorado, has a rich history that dates back to its establishment on November 1, 1861. It was one of the original 17 counties created by the Territory of Colorado and was named after the Arapaho Native American tribe who once inhabited the area. As the first county in Colorado, it originally encompassed the entire western portion of the territory, spanning as far as the Rocky Mountains. However, several new counties were created over the years, significantly reducing its size.
The city of Denver, now in Denver County, served as the first county seat of Arapahoe County until 1902 when the Colorado General Assembly split Arapahoe County into three separate entities: the City and County of Denver, the present-day Arapahoe County, and a small portion of South Adams County. After this division, Littleton became the new county seat of Arapahoe County, where it remains today.
The county is a community of vibrant cities and towns, sprawling suburban areas, and rural landscapes. Home to the well-known Cherry Creek School District and a thriving business community, Arapahoe County boasts a high quality of life for residents.
Fun fact: Arapahoe County is often referred to as the "Horse Capital of Colorado" due to its high number of horses per capita. The county is home to numerous equestrian-focused centers and events, contributing to its rich horse culture.
