Logan County is located in the northeastern region of the great state of Colorado. Established on February 25, 1887, the county was named in honor of General John A. Logan, a Civil War Union commander and an Illinois Senator. Covering an area of approximately 1,845 square miles, Logan County has its county seat in Sterling, which is the largest city in the region.

Originally inhabited by Native American tribes, Logan County witnessed a population surge during the mid-1800s as pioneers and settlers traversed the territory along the South Platte River en route to the gold mines in the west. The region saw rapid growth during the late 19th and early 20th centuries due to agriculture and the expansion of the Burlington & Missouri River Railroad.

Today, Logan County's local economy is diversified, with agriculture, education, healthcare, and retail trade being among its major industries. The county also supports several higher education institutions, including Northeastern Junior College, which contributes significantly to the region's workforce development.

Fun fact: One unique feature of Logan County is the Pawnee National Grassland, which is managed by the U.S. Forest Service. This beautiful and vast grassland draws tourists, bird watchers, and wildlife enthusiasts thanks to its stunning landscape and diverse ecosystem that provides a habitat for numerous plant and animal species, including the endangered black-footed ferret.
