Morgan County, located in the northeastern part of the great state of Colorado, was established on February 19, 1889. It was created from portions of Weld County and is named in honor of Christopher A. Morgan, the territorial legislator who later became an early settler in the area. The county has a rich history of agriculture and ranching, which continues to dominate its economy today. The county spans an area of 1,293 square miles and has a population of around 29,000 residents.

Fort Morgan, the county seat, was originally founded as Camp Wardwell in 1865 during the American Civil War. The primary purpose of the military encampment was to protect travelers and settlers from potential conflicts with Native Americans in the region. Later, in 1884, the town was officially incorporated and renamed as Fort Morgan.

One fun fact about Morgan County is the Rainbow Bridge, an iconic landmark located in Fort Morgan. Opened in 1923, the bridge is a single-span, reinforced-concrete arch bridge that crosses the South Platte River. Rainbow Bridge is notable for its unique design and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1984. Not only does it serve as a vital transportation link within the region, but it has also become a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.
