For more than forty years Hugh Halsell has been assisting newcomers and established residents make new Canaan
their home. Hugh moved to New Canaan in 1954 with his parents and joined Brotherhood & Higley in
1971.
"In 1977 Stuart Higley gave me a wonderful opportunity to purchase Brotherhood & Higley.
Being the oldest real estate firm in New Canaan (founded in 1926) as well as the most successful, I was
very fortunate to be able to carry on the firm's stellar reputation" he notes. Stuart Higley had been
considered the Dean of New Canaan real estate, having been involved in the founding of the New
Canaan Board of Realtors and the New Canaan MLS.
Hugh was President of the New Canaan Board of Realtors for two years. In addition to his work as a
Realtor, Hugh has been a community volunteer for such organizations as the United Way, Waveny Care
Center, New Canaan Country School, Juvenile Diabetes, New Canaan Land Conservation Trust and
others.
Hugh holds the professional designations of Graduate Realtor Institute (GRI) and Certified Residential
Specialist (CRS). Hugh and his wife Jean raised their four children in New Canaan.
