Here are a couple of true facts about Wolcott, Connecticut:
1. Wolcott was originally known as Farmingbury, a name that reflected the town's agricultural roots. It was later renamed in honor of Governor Oliver Wolcott Sr., a signer of the Declaration of Independence who lived in nearby Litchfield.
2. The John Strong House, located in Wolcott, is one of the oldest surviving homes in the country. Built in 1758, it is an excellent example of Georgian architecture and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
