Madison County is located in the northern part of Florida and is part of the Tallahassee Metropolitan Area. It was established on December 26, 1827, making it one of the five oldest counties in the state. The county was named after James Madison, the fourth President of the United States, who served from 1809 to 1817.

In the early years of Madison County, the area was inhabited primarily by Native American tribes, such as the Apalachee, Timucua, and Seminoles. The county's economy during the 19th and early 20th centuries was heavily dependent on agriculture, with cotton and tobacco being the primary cash crops, along with other crops like sugarcane, corn, and various fruits and vegetables.

During the Civil War, Madison County was a Confederate stronghold, as many residents supported the Confederacy's cause. Some of the county's residents joined the Confederate army and participated in battles throughout the Southeast.

In more recent years, Madison County has transitioned from an agricultural-based economy to a more diverse economic base, with healthcare, education, and manufacturing being important sectors.

One fun fact about Madison County is that it is home to the world-renowned "Bike Florida" event every year, which attracts cyclists from all over the state and the country. This week-long event highlights the beautiful countryside, historic sites, and friendly communities found in Madison and its neighboring counties, providing a unique opportunity for participants to explore the region's natural beauty and rich cultural heritage.
