Walton County, located in the great state of Florida, is named after George Walton, the Secretary of the Florida Territory from 1821 until 1826. Established on December 29, 1824, the county was carved from portions of Escambia and Jackson Counties. Boasting a rich history, Walton County witnessed the growth of lumber manufacturing and the coming of the railway in the early 20th century, which significantly impacted its economic development.

The county seat, DeFuniak Springs, was established in the early 1880s and became a hub for the L&N Railroad. This railroad connection helped the town flourish while it experienced an influx of visitors taking advantage of the health benefits offered by the area's natural springs. Notably, the town is situated around Lake DeFuniak, one of the world's two nearly perfectly circular spring-fed lakes.

As for a fun fact, Walton County is home to the highest natural point in Florida Britton Hill, standing at a modest elevation of 345 feet (105 meters) above sea level. This unique aspect draws curious visitors to the area who appreciate the distinction of this low-lying "mountain" among the otherwise flat landscape of Florida.
