Cumming is the county seat of Forsyth County, Georgia and was named after Colonel William Cumming. It has a population of approximately 7,000 people and is located approximately 40 miles north of Atlanta. Cumming is known for its historic downtown area with locally owned shops, restaurants and the Cumming Playhouse, a venue for live music and theater performances. The town is also home to the Sawnee Mountain Preserve, a 963-acre nature reserve with hiking trails, picnic areas and scenic overlooks. Additionally, Cumming hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including the Cumming Fair and Festival, which has been held annually since 1955.
