Bartow County, located in the great state of Georgia, has a rich history that can be traced back to the Native American tribes that once inhabited the region. Initially, the Cherokee people called this land their home, with settlements dating back to the late 1700s. In 1832, the land was opened up for white settlers through a land lottery system, after the Indian Removal Act forced the Cherokee people to the west during the infamous Trail of Tears.

Originally, Bartow County was named Cass County after General Lewis Cass, a Michigan senator and the Secretary of War. It was founded on December 3, 1832, following the land lottery. The county's name was changed to Bartow in honor of Francis S. Bartow, a Confederate Army colonel who was the first Georgian to die in the American Civil War, during the First Battle of Manassas (also known as the First Battle of Bull Run) in 1861.

During the Civil War, the region was the site of significant battles and military operations, with the Great Locomotive Chase passing through Bartow County in 1862. The conflict took a toll on the local economy and population, but it eventually recovered and became known for its agricultural production, iron, and coal industries in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

The county seat is Cartersville, which was named after Colonel F.T. Carter in 1840. Since then, the city has experienced growth and progress, with attractions such as the Booth Western Art Museum, the Tellus Science Museum, and the Etowah Indian Mounds State Historic Site drawing visitors to the area.

One fun fact about Bartow County is that it was the filming location of some scenes in the movie "Smokey and the Bandit" (1977). The scene where the Bandit jumps the Mulberry Bridge was filmed in Red Top Mountain State Park, which is part of Bartow County.
