Butts County is a county located in the central part of the state of Georgia, USA. Established on December 24, 1825, it was named in honor of Samuel Butts, a captain in the U.S. Army who died during the Battle of Chalibee in the Creek Indian War. The county seat is Jackson, which was founded in 1826 and incorporated as a city in 1827.

The area was initially inhabited by the Creek Indians, but European settlers gradually began moving into the region in the early 1800s. The Treaty of Indian Springs in 1825 led to the cession of Creek lands in Georgia to the United States government, paving the way for the creation of Butts County.

Throughout the 19th century, Butts County's economy was primarily agricultural, focusing on cotton and livestock production. The county's accessibility to railways and an effective transportation system helped boost its economic prospects.

Researchers have also found relics that pointed to the presence of Civil War battles around Butts County, as it was part of the greater Atlanta military theater. However, there were no significant engagements that took place within the county during the war.

Over the years, Butts County has experienced population growth and economic development. Several industries, such as manufacturing, healthcare, and education, are now central to Butts County's economy.

Fun Fact: One interesting aspect of Butts County is Jackson Lake, a man-made reservoir created in the early 20th century. It has become a popular recreational spot for residents and tourists alike, offering opportunities for fishing, boating, and other water-based activities. The lake is also the site of an annual Fourth of July boat parade, which is quite popular in the region.
