.Dawson County is located in the North Central region of the great state of Georgia, USA. Established on December 3, 1857, it was the 121st county in the state. The county was carved out of parts of Gilmer, Lumpkin, and Forsyth counties and named in honor of William Crosby Dawson, a distinguished lawyer, judge, and U.S. Senator from Georgia.
Dawson County has a rich history dating back to its early days as an important hub for gold mining in the region. The county was a vital part of Georgia's gold rush during the 1820s and 1830s. The discovery of gold in the county led to an influx of miners and settlers who contributed to the growth and development of the region. Dawsonville, the county seat, was named after the same William Crosby Dawson, and it was incorporated in 1859.
Amidst the lush landscapes of Dawson County lies the beautiful Amicalola Falls State Park, which is home to Amicalola Falls, the tallest cascading waterfall in the southeastern United States. A fun fact about Dawson County is that it serves as the southern gateway to the Appalachians and the starting point of the Appalachian Trail Approach.
