Fannin County is a picturesque area located in the great state of Georgia, USA. It was created on January 21, 1854, from parts of Gilmer and Union Counties. The county was named in honor of James W. Fannin, a Texas Revolutionary War hero who led the ill-fated Goliad Battle in 1836, during which he and 400 of his men were captured and later executed by the Mexican army. The county seat of Fannin is Blue Ridge, a charming town known for its stunning mountain views, lush national forests, lakes, and scenic drives.

Fannin County has experienced substantial growth throughout the years, with the timber industry playing a significant role in its economic development during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Additionally, the construction of the Blue Ridge Railway during the 1880s boosted the county's economy and facilitated trade and transportation.

Now, tourism is a major contributor to Fannin County's economy, with the region renowned for its outdoor recreational opportunities and unique attractions. The county boasts the Chattahoochee National Forest, which covers more than 749,748 acres throughout northern Georgia, offering hiking, camping, and wildlife-watching opportunities. The Toccoa River, another natural beauty of the region, attracts visitors for tubing, canoeing, and fishing.

A fun fact about Fannin County: This region is often referred to as the "Trout Capital of Georgia" due to its abundance of trout-filled streams, especially in the Toccoa River, and the premier trout fishing opportunities it offers to anglers.
