Haralson County, located in the great state of Georgia, was established on January 26, 1856. It was named in honor of General Hugh A. Haralson, a distinguished Georgian, U.S. Congressman, and an officer in the state militia. The county was formed from parts of Carroll and Polk counties to fulfill the needs of the growing population in West Georgia.

During the 19th century, the area was primarily agricultural, with cotton and corn being the major crops. The discovery of gold in Haralson County in the 1830s led to a temporary boom in population, as fortune seekers flooded the county. However, this gold rush was short-lived.

In the early 20th century, the county experienced an economic shift from agriculture to industry, particularly textiles. The construction of the Tallapoosa Cotton Mill in 1901, for example, led to a significant change in the county's economic dependence on agriculture. Today, Haralson County continues to maintain a balance between its agricultural and industrial roots.

A fun fact about Haralson County is that it contains a portion of the fascinating Tallapoosa River. This river is historically significant, as it played a role in the settlement and development of the area during the early 19th century. The river provided water power for mills, which in turn supported the thriving textile industry. Additionally, the Tallapoosa River is also known for outdoor recreational activities like kayaking and fishing, offering residents and visitors a glimpse of the region's natural beauty.
