Pierce County is located in the southeastern region of the great state of Georgia, USA. Established on December 18, 1857, the county was named in honor of Franklin Pierce, the 14th President of the United States. It was formed from portions of Appling and Ware counties. The county seat, Blackshear, was named after General David Blackshear, a War of 1812 and Indian War officer.

During the Civil War, Pierce County was an important region for supplies, particularly timber, which was necessary for shipbuilding and other military applications. The region's abundant turpentine industry also proved essential during the war. Agriculture, particularly cotton farming, was the primary economic activity prior to the Civil War, but it expanded to include tobacco, livestock, and timber industries in the following years.

Today, Pierce County serves as a thriving, peaceful community that embraces its historical roots while boasting a strong local economy and quality of life.

Fun fact: Pierce County is home to the Okefenokee Swamp Park, which features a wide range of stunning wildlife and is the source of two major rivers the Suwannee River and the St. Mary's River.
