Columbus, Georgia played a significant role during the Civil War. Due to its location, it served as a valuable transportation hub for the Confederacy, helping to move troops and supplies to the battlefield. An interesting historical anecdote from Columbus is the story of the infamous "Ladies' Gunboat Society."
