Winterset is a small town in Madison County, Iowa, with a population of around 5,200 people. It is best known for its covered bridges, which were made famous by the novel and movie, "Bridges of Madison County." Winterset was founded in 1849 and named after the winter wheat crop that was growing in the area at the time.
The town has a historic courthouse, which is now a museum and visitor center, and is surrounded by beautiful farms and rolling hills.
