Blaine County is located in the central part of the great state of Idaho. It was established on March 5, 1895, and named in honor of James G. Blaine, a former U.S. Secretary of State and a one-time presidential candidate. The county seat is Hailey, and other prominent cities include Ketchum, Sun Valley, and Bellevue. The county has a rich history of mining, ranching, and tourism.

In the late 19th century, Blaine County was an important destination for silver and lead mining. The area saw rapid development driven by the Wood River mines, which thrived until the decline of the industry in the early 20th century. After the mining era, the county transitioned into ranching and farming, which continues to be a significant economic activity.

Blaine County is also known for its contributions to the development of the skiing and tourism industries. In 1936, Sun Valley, a famous ski resort in the county, was developed by Union Pacific Railroad. The resort introduced the world's first chairlifts, revolutionizing winter sports and giving rise to the modern skiing industry. Sun Valley was frequented by celebrities, politicians, and international guests, turning the region into a popular tourist destination. Ernest Hemingway, the renowned American author, spent considerable time in the county, ultimately choosing to be buried in Ketchum's cemetery.

Fun Fact: Blaine County is notable for its spectacular outdoor recreation, including skiing, hiking, fly fishing, and river rafting, attracting visitors from around the world to its scenic landscapes and charming towns.
