Boise County, located in the great state of Idaho, was established on February 4, 1864. It was named after the Boise River, a prominent waterway in the region, with the word "Boise" meaning "wooded" in French. The county is situated in the southwestern part of the state and covers an area of approximately 1,907 square miles.

During the 1860s, Boise County became a significant hub due to the Idaho gold rush. Shortly after the discovery of gold in the region, several mining towns rapidly developed, attracting a large number of miners and settlers. The towns of Idaho City, Placerville, and Centerville were among the prominent settlements established during this time. At its peak in the 1860s, Idaho City, the county seat of Boise County, was the largest city in the Pacific Northwest with a population of around 7,000 people.

Logging and agriculture also played vital roles in the county's growth and served as economic drivers for many years. Logging was a primary industry due to the county's abundance of forests, while agriculture prospered in part because of the ample water supply provided by the Boise River.

One fun fact about Boise County is that it is home to the Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area, a popular destination for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts. The recreation area, founded in 1942, offers a range of winter activities, including cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and tubing, as well as summer activities such as mountain biking and hiking. It is an essential contributor to the county's tourism industry.
