Power County is a county located in the southeastern part of the great state of Idaho, with its county seat in American Falls. It was established on January 30, 1913, and its land was carved out of parts of Cassia, Oneida, and Bannock counties. The county derived its name from the American Falls Power Plant construction project initiated by the Snake River's flow for the generation of hydroelectric power.

The vast and fertile plains surrounding the Snake River played a crucial role in the development of this region. Throughout history, various groups and tribes, such as the Shoshone, Bannock, and Northern Paiute, inhabited this region before European settlers explored the area. In the early 1800s, fur trappers were among the first non-native populations to explore the region, followed by pioneers along the Oregon Trail that passed through the area.

Agriculture, livestock, and hydroelectric power became the mainstays of the economy in Power County. The county's agricultural richness is showcased by its production of potatoes, sugar beets, and various grains.

Fun fact: Power County played a significant role during World War II as one of the sites selected for the US Navy's Lend-Lease program. The Naval Ordnance Plant, located near the American Falls power plant, was responsible for manufacturing and repairing torpedoes, contributing to the war efforts significantly.
