Twin Falls County, Idaho

Twin Falls County, located in the southern part of the great state of Idaho, was established on February 21, 1907. This region has a vibrant history which can be traced back to the indigenous tribes, such as the Shoshone and Bannock, who originally inhabited this area.
In the early days of American westward expansion, the Oregon Trail passed right through the county, bringing numerous pioneers and fur trappers to the region in the mid-1800s. The name "Twin Falls" originates from the two nearby falls in the Snake River Canyon, but now only one is visible. The second has been essentially eliminated due to the construction of a hydroelectric project in the early 1900s.
One of the largest engineering accomplishments in Twin Falls County was the construction of the Milner Dam and its canal system, which was completed in 1905. The dam allowed for irrigation in the region, transforming the arid landscape into fertile farmland and allowing for the growth of the Magic Valley as an agricultural hub.
A fun fact about Twin Falls County is that it is home to the famous Perrine Bridge, which is a 1,500 ft long, 486 ft high bridge spanning the Snake River Canyon. This bridge is an iconic landmark, known for its views and popularity among BASE jumpers. BASE jumping is legal from the bridge, making it one of the few destinations in the United States where thrill-seekers can participate in this extreme sport without a permit.
