Valley County, located in the great state of Idaho, was officially created on February 26, 1917. The county got its name due to the fact that it consists of the Long Valley of the North Fork of the Payette River, as well as the surrounding mountains. Before its establishment, the area was part of Boise County, and its formation was initiated to better serve the population living in the area at the time.

Much of Valley County's history is closely tied to the mining and timber industries, which attracted settlers to the region during the 19th and early 20th centuries. In the 1860s, gold was discovered in the region, leading to an influx of prospectors and miners, and small settlements began to form.

Many pioneers moved to the region, and they tamed the wilderness by establishing mines, building infrastructure, and fostering a strong sense of community. Several small towns sprouted up in the region, such as Cascade, McCall, and Yellow Pine. The timber industry enjoyed great success in the area, and numerous lumber mills operated throughout the county.

One fun fact about Valley County is that it is home to the beautiful Payette Lake, a popular destination for outdoor recreation. The lake gets its name from Franois Payette, a French-Canadian fur trapper and explorer who traversed the region in the 19th century. Today, the lake offers year-round activities such as swimming, boating, fishing, and ice-skating, effectively drawing thousands of visitors each year.
