Christian County is located in the central part of the great state of Illinois. It was established on February 15, 1839, and covers an area of around 716 square miles. The county was named in honor of Christian County, Kentucky, which was named after Colonel William Christian, a prominent pioneer and Revolutionary War soldier.

The county seat is Taylorville, which was founded in 1839 by John Taylor, a local landowner, and politician. As the county expanded, agricultural production rapidly became the cornerstone of the local economy, with corn and soybeans as primary crops.

One of the most significant historical events in Christian County occurred in 1908, when Illinois Central Railroad established a new line in the region, connecting Taylorville and Mattoon. The rail line was influential in driving economic development and growth in the area.

A fun fact about Christian County is that it's home to the Morrisonville Fault System, a geological feature that has been responsible for multiple minor earthquakes in the past. The largest recorded earthquake in the area occurred in 1909, with a magnitude of 5.1.

Christian County's rich history in agriculture and transportation make it an important part of Illinois' overall historical tapestry. Today, the county continues to thrive as a result of its robust agricultural industry and fascinating past.
