Cumberland County, located in the great state of Illinois, was established on March 2, 1843. Carved out from parts of Coles County, it was named after the Cumberland Road, an important route in the early days of the United States, which itself was named after the Cumberland River Valley in Kentucky and Tennessee.

The county seat of Cumberland County is Toledo, while some of its other prominent towns include Neoga, Greenup, and Jewett. The county stretches over an area of about 347 square miles, primarily characterized by its agricultural and rural landscape. The region is bolstered economically by its agricultural output, which includes corn, soybeans, and wheat farming.

One fun fact about Cumberland County is that it is home to the Jackson Truss Covered Bridge, which is a historical landmark built in 1865. This bridge was once considered the oldest covered bridge in the State of Illinois, though it no longer serves vehicular traffic. Today, the bridge is a popular site for tourists and locals who appreciate its historical significance and picturesque appearance.
