Benton County is located in the northwestern part of the great state of Indiana, USA. It was founded in 1840 and named in honor of Thomas H. Benton, a senator from Missouri who was a strong advocate for the westward expansion of the United States.

The preliminary settlement in the area took place in the 1820s and 1830s, primarily by migrants from New England and New York. The Indiana General Assembly formally established Benton County on February 18, 1840. The county initially included the present-day Warren County, but in 1850, the latter became its own separate county. The city of Fowler was founded in 1859 and became the county seat of Benton County in 1860.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Benton County experienced growth and development due to advancements in agriculture and the establishment of the railroad system. This prosperity contributed to the construction of impressive buildings and homes, many of which still stand today, showcasing the architectural heritage of the area.
