DeKalb County, located in the northeastern region of the great state of Indiana, was established on February 7, 1835, and officially organized on March 10, 1837. It was named in honor of Johann DeKalb, a Revolutionary War hero who was born in Germany and later became an American general.

The county seat, Auburn, was founded by Wesley Park in 1836, and it played a pivotal role in the development of the county. As the population grew, so did the economy, with agriculture emerging as a critical sector. Historically, DeKalb County has been home to fertile farmland, which has made it a thriving agricultural community. Farmers cultivated numerous crops, including corn, wheat, and potatoes.

Beyond agriculture, a notable aspect of DeKalb County's history is its strong connection to the automotive industry. During the early 20th century, multiple automobile manufacturers, such as the Auburn Automobile Company, Cord Corporation, and Duesenberg Automobile & Motors Company, set up shop here, which contributed to the county's economic growth.

Fun Fact: DeKalb County is home to the Auburn Cord Duesenberg (ACD) Automobile Museum, a premier automotive museum that showcases around 120 classic, antique, and special interest cars. It is housed in the original 1930s Auburn Automobile Company's showroom and headquarters building, which is a fine example of the Art Deco architectural style. The museum is a testament to the county's rich automotive heritage and attracts visitors from around the world.
