Howard County, located in the great state of Indiana, has a rich history that dates back to its founding in 1844. The county was named in honor of General Tilghman Ashurst Howard, an Indiana statesman and U.S. Congressman who played a significant role in the development of Indiana statehood. The city of Kokomo serves as the county seat and is the 13th largest city in the state.

In the mid-19th century, the region started flourishing with the establishment of several prominent industries, including glass manufacturing and the automobile industry. These businesses played pivotal roles in shaping the development of the county. The industrial boom continued into the early 20th century, transforming Howard County into an economic powerhouse.

The discovery of natural gas in the late 19th century further accelerated Howard County's growth. The county became a hub for inventors and manufacturers, including Elwood Haynes, who is credited with inventing stainless steel and one of America's first automobiles. Haynes established the Haynes Automobile Company in Kokomo, further emphasizing the significance of the automotive industry in the county.

A fun fact about Howard County is that it is often referred to as the "City of Firsts." This nickname stems from its legacy of innovation, which includes many significant inventions, such as the first commercially produced automobile (developed by Elwood Haynes) and the first mechanical corn picker. Howard County has a lasting impact on both the history of the state and the entire nation.
