Orange County, located in the great state of Indiana, has a rich history that dates back to its formation on December 26, 1815. Named after Orange County, North Carolina, it was founded by settlers who migrated from North Carolina and Kentucky. The county seat, Paoli, was established in 1816 and named in honor of Pasquale Paoli Ash, the son of North Carolina's governor at the time.

One of the early historical markers in the region was the establishment of the Orleans Seminary in 1821, which later became the Orleans Academy. It played a crucial role in fostering education in the area during the early 19th century.

The county experienced growth and development with the expansion of the railway system in the mid-19th century, connecting Orange County with other parts of Indiana and neighboring states. This led to increased trade, commerce, and population growth.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Orange County's economy was driven primarily by agriculture and limestone quarrying. While the agricultural industry sustained the local population, limestone quarrying provided the necessary building materials for the construction of several iconic buildings in Indiana and beyond.

Fun fact: Orange County is home to the historic West Baden Springs Hotel, known as the "Eighth Wonder of the World" when it was built in 1902. The hotel's breathtaking six-story dome was the largest unsupported dome in the world until the completion of the Houston Astrodome in 1965. Today, the hotel, along with the neighboring French Lick Springs Hotel, operates as a luxury resort and attracts visitors who seek leisure and relaxation in the area's historic mineral springs.
