Perry County is located in the southern part of the great state of Indiana. It was first established on November 1, 1814, and named in honor of Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, an American naval hero in the War of 1812. The county seat is Tell City, which was founded in 1858 by a group of Swiss-German immigrants and the city gets its name after William Tell, the famous Swiss folk hero.

Initially inhabited by Native American tribes, Perry County started to see European-American settlers arriving in the early 19th century. Due to its location along the Ohio River, Perry County was a crucial transportation hub during the pioneer era, connecting various regions and promoting economic development. Industries, such as lumber, agriculture, and coal mining, played a significant role in the county's growth.

One fun fact about Perry County is that it is home to the Hoosier National Forest, which spans over 200,000 acres of land. The forest provides excellent opportunities for outdoor recreational activities such as hiking, biking, horseback riding, and fishing, attracting both locals and tourists to enjoy the natural beauty of this part of Indiana.
