Wabash County, located in the northeastern region of the great state of Indiana, was established on January 30, 1835. Named after the Wabash River, the county has a rich history that dates back to the early 19th century when the Native American tribe of Miami Indians inhabited the area. The city of Wabash, the county seat, became an important trading post during this period.

In the 1820s, European settlers, mainly from Ohio and Kentucky, started to migrate to the area, leading to an increase in population and the formation of small, rural communities. The construction of the Wabash and Erie Canal, completed in the 1840s, played a pivotal role in the county's development, providing a reliable means of transport for both goods and people. With the advent of the railroad in the latter half of the 19th century, Wabash County continued to grow and prosper.

Wabash County's economy has historically been based on agriculture, with corn, soybeans, and wheat as its primary crops, alongside some manufacturing industries. Today, the county remains an important agricultural region and is also home to a variety of industries, including manufacturing, retail, and healthcare.

Now for a fun fact: The city of Wabash, within Wabash County, is famous for being the first electrically lit city in the world. On March 31, 1880, four "Brush lights" were installed atop the courthouse, making Wabash the first town globally to have outdoor electric street lighting. This historic event marked a significant milestone in the history of electric power and its application in everyday life.
