Whitley County, Indiana
.Whitley County is located in the northeastern region of Indiana, USA, and was officially established on February 7, 1835. The county was named in honor of Colonel William Whitley, a Kentucky cavalry officer who fought in the Indian Wars and died in the Battle of the Thames in 1813.
The area was initially inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Miami and Potawatomi. Later, in the early 19th century, European settlers began to arrive, and Whitley County gradually developed into an agricultural community. The early settlers established the county's first town, Columbia City, in 1839, which later became the county seat.
In terms of transportation, railroads played a significant role in the growth and development of Whitley County. The Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne, and Chicago Railway reached the county in 1856, connecting it to larger cities and making it more accessible for trade.
A fun fact about Whitley County is that it is home to the annual Old Settlers Day Celebration and Parade, held every year since 1904. This event commemorates the first settlers of the region and is one of the oldest continually running festivals in Indiana.
