Olathe, Kansas has a rich history with several significant events. One notable event occurred during the American Civil War when the Battle of Mine Creek was fought near Olathe on October 25, 1864. This battle was part of the Union Army's campaign to capture Confederate forces in Missouri and helped turn the tide of the war towards the Union.

Additionally, Olathe was a stop along the famous Santa Fe Trail, a major trade route from Missouri to Santa Fe, New Mexico in the 19th century. The city also played a role in the growth of Kansas agriculture and was a center for cattle trading, wheat milling, and other businesses.

In 1957, the landmark Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court case, which outlawed racial segregation in public schools, also had an impact in Olathe as the city was required to desegregate its schools.
