.Leavenworth County is situated in northeastern Kansas and boasts a rich historical background. Established on August 25, 1855, during the Kansas territorial era, it was one of the first 36 original counties in the state. The county was named after Henry Leavenworth, a highly respected officer in the United States Army who founded Fort Leavenworth in 1827.
