Baxter Springs is known for its rich history and was once a notorious frontier town. During the Civil War, it served as a trailhead for wagon trains going west, and it was also an important stop on the Chisholm Trail. Today, Baxter Springs is a quiet community with a population of approximately 4,000 people.
