Cherryvale, Kansas was founded in 1869 and named after the wild cherry trees along the banks of Cherry Creek. It is a small town with a population of around 2,300 people and is known for its historic downtown area, which includes many well-preserved buildings from the late 1800s and early 1900s. Cherryvale is also the birthplace of actress Louise Brooks and was the filming location for the movie adaptation of the book "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" in 1910. The town hosts several annual events, including a rodeo and a Christmas parade.
