Central City, Kentucky is a small town with a population of around 5,800 people. It was founded in 1870 and named for its location as the "central" point between Louisville and Nashville. It is known for its mining history, as Muhlenberg County was once a major coal-producing region. Central City is also home to the Everly Brothers Memorial and the annual Muhlenberg County Fair. Notable individuals from the area include bluegrass musician Bill Monroe and country singer Patty Loveless.
