Christian County is located in the southwestern part of the great state of Kentucky. Established on March 1, 1797, the county was named after Colonel William Christian, a distinguished soldier, and Virginian legislator. Colonel Christian fought in both the Revolutionary War and Lord Dunmore's War, which was waged to protect Virginia's Colony frontier.

The county seat, Hopkinsville, was founded in 1799 and named in honor of General Samuel Hopkins, an officer in the Revolutionary War and the Indian conflicts that followed. The city quickly developed as an agricultural hub, primarily focusing on tobacco, corn, and livestock. This rich agricultural history allows the region to continue thriving as a center of modern agribusiness.

One fun fact about Christian County is that it has been considered the birthplace of the famous "Eclipseville" phenomenon. In the summer of 2017, Hopkinsville was the epicenter of the Great American Eclipse, a total solar eclipse that drew thousands of tourists from across the nation to experience the longest period of complete darkness. No other place in the country experienced the totality of the eclipse longer than Hopkinsville, giving the city its remarkable nickname.
