Grant County is a county located in the northern part of the state of Kentucky in the United States. It was established on December 12, 1820, and named in honor of Colonel John Grant, a Revolutionary War soldier who owned a significant portion of land in the region. The county seat is Williamstown, which was founded in 1820 and named after William Arnold, a local landowner.

The area that makes up Grant County has a rich history dating back thousands of years, with Native American tribes populating the area long before European settlers arrived. In the late 18th century, pioneers from Virginia and Pennsylvania moved into the region, and agriculture became the primary industry.

The county played a role during the American Civil War, with Confederate General Basil W. Duke and his troops traveling through the county and skirmishing with Union troops in Williamstown in 1862. Despite this, Grant County remained largely neutral during the conflict.

Today, Grant County remains rooted in its agricultural heritage, with farms and small businesses dotting the landscape. The county is known for its picturesque rural landscapes and distinct seasons, offering numerous recreational opportunities for locals and visitors alike.
