Meade County is located in the north-central region of the great state of Kentucky in the United States. It was established on December 17, 1823, and named in honor of Captain James M. Meade, a military hero who was killed during the Battle of River Raisin in the War of 1812. The county seat, Brandenburg, was founded in 1825 and named after its founder, Solomon Brandenburg, who sold the land for the town.

Meade County covers an area of approximately 324 square miles and is known for its rich history, natural beauty, and friendly communities. The Ohio River forms its northern border, offering picturesque views and recreational opportunities like boating and fishing.

In the mid-19th century, Meade County experienced significant growth with the establishment of the Louisville, St. Louis & Texas Railroad, which passed through the county, connecting cities and promoting trade. The region's economy during this time was largely based on agriculture, with tobacco, corn, and wheat being the primary crops.

An interesting fact about Meade County is that it was the location of the largest civil war battle in Kentucky, known as the Battle of Muldraugh Hill, which took place on December 17, 1861. Union forces, led by General Alexander McDowell McCook, clashed with Confederate troops under the command of Brigadier General Thomas C. Hindman. The battle ended with a Union victory, helping them maintain control of central Kentucky throughout the war.

Today, Meade County is home to a diverse population and continues to flourish due to its excellent schools, expanding industries, and commitment to historical preservation. One of its most popular attractions is the Otter Creek Outdoor Recreation Area, which offers various recreational opportunities such as hiking, camping, and fishing.
