Rockcastle County is located in the great state of Kentucky, USA. Established in 1810, it encompasses an area of approximately 318 square miles, with its county seat in Mount Vernon. The county was named after the Rockcastle River, which in turn was named for its magnificent rock formations resembling castles. The river is a significant tributary of the Cumberland River and serves as a border between Rockcastle and Laurel counties.

During the early 1800s, settlers were attracted to the area due to the abundance of fertile land and natural resources. The county's development was boosted by the completion of the Wilderness Road (now known as US Route 25) that went through the region, connecting it to the rest of Kentucky and beyond. This allowed for growth in agricultural, industrial, and commercial activities.

Rockcastle County played a role during the Civil War, as both Union and Confederate troops frequently crossed the area due to its strategic location. Skirmishes and conflicts occurred around the county; however, no significant engagements took place within its borders.

Over the years, Rockcastle County has continued to grow and develop, with industries such as logging, agriculture, and manufacturing contributing to its economy. The fascinating natural beauty of the county is one of its main attractions. One fun fact about the region is that it houses the Renfro Valley Entertainment Center, also known as "Kentucky's Country Music Capital." The center, founded by John Lair in 1939, is a significant live music venue hosting country, bluegrass, and gospel acts, making it an important hub for the preservation and celebration of regional Southern musical traditions.
