Trigg County is located in southwestern Kentucky and was established on January 27, 1820. It was named in honor of Colonel Stephen Trigg, a Revolutionary War veteran who died at the Battle of Blue Licks in 1782. The county seat, Cadiz, was founded in 1820 as well, and derives its name from the Spanish city of Cadiz, although the origin of the name is often debated.

Before Trigg County was formed, the area was inhabited by various Native American tribes, primarily the Shawnee and the Chickasaw. Later on, European settlers started to arrive in the late 18th century, mostly from Virginia and North Carolina. They were mostly engaged in farming, cultivating tobacco, corn, and livestock.

Today, Trigg County is known for its picturesque landscapes, recreational opportunities, and strong sense of community. Agriculture remains important for the local economy, as well as manufacturing, healthcare, and tourism. Trigg County is home to Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, one of the largest inland peninsulas in the United States, which offers a wide variety of outdoor activities.

Fun Fact: The Trigg County Ham Festival is an annual event that has been held in Cadiz since 1977, usually during the first weekend of October. The festival celebrates the rich history and tradition of country ham production in the county, and attracts thousands of visitors every year with its food, live music, and various competitions, including a highly coveted "Best Country Ham" contest.
