Lecompte, Louisiana is known as the "Louisiana Pie Capital" because of a historic event that happened in 1902. The owner of the Lecompte High School had challenged his students to a pie-baking contest. The contest gained statewide popularity, and soon people from all over Louisiana were sending in pies to compete. Today, the Lecompte Pie Festival is still held yearly and attracts visitors from all over the country who come to taste the famous pies.
