Louisiana State Motto: Union, justice, and confidence
Front of the US quarter dollar coin   Louisiana State Quarter

The Louisiana state quarter was created in 2002 as part of the United States Mint's 50 State Quarters Program. The design of the Louisiana quarter features a pelican feeding its young, with a banner underneath that reads "Feeding Our Young". This symbolizes Louisiana's abundant wildlife and the importance of protecting it. The coin also includes the state motto, "Union, Justice, and Confidence", and the year of statehood, 1812. The outer ring of the quarter features the state name and the phrase "E Pluribus Unum", which translates to "Out of Many, One".

The second Louisiana State Quarter

The Louisiana quarter is part of the United States Mint's America the Beautiful Quarters Program. The program honors 56 national parks and other national sites across the United States and its territories. The Louisiana quarter was issued on April 8, 2019, and features a scene of oak and cypress trees in a bayou in the Kisatchie National Forest. The inscriptions on the quarter include "KISATCHIE", "LOUISIANA", "2019", and "E PLURIBUS UNUM". The reverse design of the quarter symbolizes the natural beauty of Louisiana, as well as its history of French and Spanish colonization. The quarter reflects the state's unique culture and the diverse wildlife that inhabits the Kisatchie National Forest. The oak and cypress trees depicted on the coin are representative of the state's hardwood forests and swamps, while the Cypress trees also symbolize the Louisiana bayou and the state's rich cultural heritage.
