New Salem is a small, rural village located in Franklin County, Massachusetts. Here are some interesting facts about it:
1. New Salem was founded in 1736 and was originally known as "Swift River Village."
2. The village served as a stop on the Underground Railroad, a network of secret routes and safe houses used by slaves to escape to freedom in the North.
