A fun and verifiable fact about the town of Georgetown, Massachusetts is that the town's beloved mascot is a giant fiberglass cat named "Penny" which stands at the entrance to the town. The giant cat was created in the 1980s by artist Ellen Ritter, and became a beloved landmark in the town. Every year, the town celebrates "Penny Day" where residents dress up in cat ears and tails and celebrate the town's unique mascot.
