Living in Oakland, Maryland, is a great opportunity for anyone who loves nature and outdoor recreation. The town is surrounded by the Monongahela National Forest, giving residents access to plenty of hiking trails and recreational areas. Oakland also has a vibrant downtown area with shops and restaurants and is located close to Deep Creek Lake, which offers many opportunities for water sports and other outdoor activities. The downside of living in Oakland is that the town is fairly isolated from larger cities. There are not many job opportunities in the area, so many residents commute to cities like Morgantown or Cumberland for work.
