A fun and verifiable fact about the village of Buckeystown, Maryland is that it was once a thriving transportation hub during the mid-19th century, with a railroad station, a tollhouse, and a steamboat landing. The tollhouse, known as the Buckeystown Tollhouse, still remains, and is one of the few surviving tollhouses in the state of Maryland. The village was also a frequent stop on the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, which ran parallel to the Potomac River.
