Eckhart Mines is a small village of about 926 people located in Allegany County, Maryland. The village was founded in the 1800s as a coal mining town and was named after a local farmer named Eckhart. The town had a coal mine, which has now been closed, and the town was mainly inhabited by coal miners and their families. The town has a rich history, with several historic buildings still standing, including the Eckhart Presbyterian Church built-in 1875, and the Eckhart Public School building, built-in 1915. Today, the town has a few small businesses, and the residents are mainly engaged in farming and other small-scale industries.
