At my age, with two kids, I never thought Id even consider changing careers. After all, Id always loved my career as a hairstylist until I found myself daydreaming of not being one. It never occurred to me that I would ever leave a career that defined who I was since I was 20. I knew Id hit my ceiling. I stayed the last few years for my clients. Not only did they count on me to do their hair every month but some came to see me to be in my chair for other reasons. A lot of my clients were with me from the beginning of my career. Most watched me trudge through some pretty heavy stuff to become the woman and mother I am today. So, not only was I feeling the guilt of abandoning them but I was afraid to leave the comfort of the people who already knew me.
Unfortunately, along the way of doing something I once loved my whole life I knew Id lost my spice for it. When I finally decided I was going to leave my career most of my clients gave me their blessings. It took me a bit to build up the courage to dive into real estate. I had always been intrigued and interested in it so I knew the passion was there. But sometimes that pesky self doubt snuck in. I'm thankful everyday that both my husband and my kids never once questioned what in the world I was doing, even when I did. Instead of them feeling as anxious as I was, they were proud of me.
So I did it. I started the journey towards a new career. A career that I love and challenges my brain in a way that I was craving. Ive realized along the way that Real Estate has a lot of the same qualities that being a hairstylist did. People just want to be heard and listened to.
Making that decision to step outside my comfort zone was scary and uncomfortable. Once I decided it was ok to do something for myself it felt so refreshing.
Real Estate isnt only showing pretty houses. Real estate is so much more. Its getting to know families, finding out what they need and helping them get there. I understand how stressful it is to pack up a house full of memories. Easing some of that stress for a family is my new spice.
